More than 200 people work within the McArdle Laboratory, including 16 faculty, and approximately 90 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, 60 Academic Staff, 15 Classified Staff, and many undergraduates.
Currently, there are sixteen faculty with primary appointments in the Department of Oncology (two Assistant Professors, one Associate Professor, and thirteen full Professors). In addition, five faculty are active as Professors Emeritus (two with active research laboratories). For additional information, see Faculty Research Interests.
There are approximately 60 full-time academic staff employees in the department. These individuals include three departmental administrators (listed below), scientists, researchers, research specialists, and laboratory managers. Approximately fifty of the academic staff work in specific research groups and the remainder perform duties in administrative or shared services. The McArdle Laboratory also employs 20 classified employees, all of whom work in the departmental shared service facilities.
Randy Martinson, Administrative Officer, is responsible
for business and fiscal services.
Karen Schwarz, Senior Administrative Program Specialist,
serves as the director of human resources.
Bette Sheehan, Senior Administrative Program Manager, is
responsible for grants and training programs.
None of the faculty in the Department of Oncology have personal secretaries or other administrative personnel. Faculty rely on the services provided by the secretarial pool, which is made up of two University Services Associates, Mary Jo Markham and Kristen Adler. In addition, there are two clerical assistants in the department who act as receptionists and assist the business and administrative staff. One Financial Specialist, Patty Swan, performs the bookkeeping for all of the department's grants and assists with the posting and processing of purchase requisitions and in vendor relations.
